The great news for Thomas Tuchel is that his squad returned from Bucharest in good health, with all those having made the trip to Romania available to face Manchester United today. However, Tuchel confirmed in his pre-match media conference that Thiago Silva will not be in contention to face Manchester United as he continues to recover from a muscle injury which he sustained at Tottenham last month.   Tuchel reported ' He carried out an individual training session today, on the pitch, and felt this was huge progress.' 'This is a big step for him, so I am hoping that he will join us next week.' Tuchel has already faced Manchester United twice this season with PSG in the champions league group stage  'It is very helpful if you understand the style, strength and weakness. We have had a pretty good impression of the style they play and the spaces in which they want to hurt us, alongside their strengths individually as a group. This will help us to prepare.' 'The

Tuchel explains lack of minutes for Ziyech and states what he has learnt about his squad

Tuchel admits that it has been difficult in giving playing time to Hakim Ziyech, but Tuchel is confident that Ziyech's moment will come. Hakim Ziyech has seen himself pushed down the pecking order for a place in Thomas Tuchel's starting line-up Hakim Ziyech ahs mote featured in the premier league for Chelsea since starting the goalless draw with Wolves which was Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge as Chelsea head coach. Ziyech was on the pitch for 70 minutes in the FA Cup against Barnsley, but since then has found himself behind the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi for the two places as a central striker in Tuchel's preferred 3-4-2-1 system.  Tuchel stated 'it's my fault actually not his.' 'There are often some decisions for my other players which means that Hakim suffers a little bit as a result. I agree with this, I accept this is my responsibility and my fault that he is unable to show more of his potential.' 'As

Tuchel states that defender is out but provides update on attacking duo and reports on issues for Pulisic

There appeared to be some mixed news relating to injuries ahead of our trip to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime, with Thiago set to be ruled out of the game at St Mary's and Christian Pulisic unlikely to travel, even though others who were a doubt were expected to be available. In his pre-press match conference Thomas Tuchel reported from Cobham  through a video link, speaking before the final training session before Chelsea headed to Southampton this afternoon.  Whilst this meant that Tuchel could not be a 100 percent certain about the condition of all of his players ahead of Saturday's game, he was able to reveal that Thiago Silva would not be involved at St Mary's. Tuchel stated 'Thiago will be out of the game as he is not already.' Tuchel's reflection of the of two halves and not getting carried away with return to top four

Image
Chelsea head-coach Thomas Tuchel appeared to be more pleased with Chelsea's first half performance in comparison to the second half in the Blues 2-0 win over Newcastle, but already feels that he has identified both the negatives and the positives from the game. Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to move into the champions league qualification places thanks to goals from Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud in the first half. This was in stark contrast to the second half performance by Chelsea where Newcastle fought back hard and applied more pressure for Chelsea to maintain their two goal lead. 'I enjoyed the first half' Tuchel said. 'We played with a lot of courage and had a lot of touches in their box and also had a lot of shots. We managed to keep Newcastle away from our own box and did not allow them chances of even half-chances so I liked this a lot.' 'During the whole game, we lacked precision in the final decision and we also lacked decisi

Tuchel on the importance of building trust

In an exclusive interview Thomas Tuchel takes time out to explain his management philosophies and includes why honesty and humility play a vital role in the relationship between both the coach and the players. Head-Coach Thomas Tuchel in the dugout during Chelsea's FA Cup game against Barnsley Tuchel has previously spoken about taking a calm and natural approach with both his players during his early stages as Chelsea head coach, keen to criticise or praise based on performances only, without putting too much of the focus o results whilst getting to understand his new team. Despite this Tuchel is still unbeaten in his reign as Chelsea head coach, with four wins and one draw  going into tonight's game at home to Newcastle United. Tuchel still insists however, that he would not have a problem mixing up in order to voice his displeasure through more forceful terms, were he to feel that his teams performances were to merit it, but would like to only use it if it was for a productiv

Tuchel on his intentions to reward Chilwell

Image
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel said that he could understand Ben Chilwell's disappointment in being left out of the Chelsea team currently and has stated the he sees a lot of potential in Chilwell in becoming a big player for Chelsea.  Ben Chilwell and Thomas Tuchel during a Chelsea game Ben Chilwell at Stamford Bridge from Leicester in the summer and shone under Tuchel's predecessor Frank Lampard, having suffered initially with a heel injury.  Ever since Tuchel's arrival at Chelsea, Chilwell has seen his playing time reduced, with the German impressed with Marco's Alonso's display at wing-back. Tuchel however, insists that the door is not necessarily closed for Chilwell though and hopes to reward the left-back with minutes soon. Tuchel stated 'Chilly is a player with enormous talent and I will find opportunities to provide him with minutes on the pitch because this is what he deserves.' 'It was a very difficult decision in selecting Marcos over Chilly

Youth is the backbone of any club says Tuchel

Image
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has great admiration for the young players to make a successful career for themselves at a top team and says the passion for the club itself is vital to making it at Chelsea. Tuchel says that the youth form the backbone of any football club. Since selecting experience over youth in is head game as Chelsea head coach, Thomas Tuchel has picked up where Frank Lampard has left off when it comes to putting his faith in Chelsea's homegrown young players and providing them with an opportunity to excel.  This was very much evident again in the Blues last match, where six academy graduates from Cobham featured in the FA Cup fifth round victory over Barnsley, a fact which was underlined when three of those graduates Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour and Reece James combined with each other for Abrahams decisive goal in the game.  In Tuchel's own opinion, the players who are coming through Cobham are the lifeblood of the club and something which he has always t

Tuchel on finding the correct balance

Image
Thomas Tuchel in the dugout during Chelsea's 1-0 victory away to Barnsley in the FA Cup Thomas Tuchel states that the key in helping this Chelsea team will be for him to introduce new ideas without the players being overworked or overloaded throughout a hectic season. In a spell which is typical of the current campaign, Chelsea booked their place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup with a victory over Barnsley on Thursday night and return to action in the premier league at home to Newcastle United, which leaves just three days between matches to recuperate and recover. Though the lack of training time will be frustrating for Tuchel whilst trying to get to know his players midway through the season, the German feels that a higher number of games provides an opportunity to see what they are able to do on the pitch, even if he has to be careful with how much work he will have to do with them at Cobham. Tuchel went onto state 'Every manager in the world aspires to have four weeks w

Tuchel on difficulties at Barnsley plus highlighting a player who made the difference

Image
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was fully prepared to admit that he was thankful to have left Barnsley with a victory on Thursday, However as a source of satisfaction, Tuchel pointed to the victory achieved at Oakwell which puts his side into the quarter finals of the FA Cup.  The only goal of the game was netted in by Tammy Abraham to separate the sides for the large majority of the game, Chelsea made 10 changes from the premier league win at the weekend, were matched by Barnsley from the championship. It was in stark contrast to the last outing between the two sides which resulted in a massive 6-0 win for Chelsea in the Carabao cup earlier during the season. Tuchel said before returning to London 'I have to be honest yes I am relieved.' 'But we can now stop all of the analysis we have done it and Chelsea are through to the quarter finals of the FA Cup. 'We know we can clearly play better than this, this was far from our best performance Tuchel said. 'To cope with

Tuchel on targeting the FA Cup

Image
Thomas Tuchel says he is excited to be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in a competition which he has followed since he was a little boy. Tuchel's Chelsea travel to Barnsley today for their fifth round game with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.  For Tuchel though there is no need to explain the FA cup to him as he admits growing up as a little boy in Germany that he is a big fan of the FA cup and says it would be a dream to lead Chelsea out a Wembley, even though his sole focus remains on overcoming Barnsley at Oakwell.  On lifting the trophy Tuchel said 'this of course would be absolutely huge. 'The FA cup is one of the most prestigious cups in the world with the final played at Wembley. Even as a little boy in Germany with no internet access or sports channels where you can watch all the games like nowadays, for sure you know that Wembley and the FA cup go hand in hand. 'We know that it's a big game to play and a very big goal to achieve, my a

He goes onto say ' for us this is the third away game from home now, therefore we don't want to lose both our awareness and attention to detail, so I think that this is a good opportunity to make some changes.  'Everybody in our team deserves to be on the pitch and there are also players who have suffered as a result of my decisions. It is an important moment for us tomorrow to have some fresh legs and minds out on the pitch

Reece James says Chelsea are working under Tuchel and says Timo's time is coming

Image
One the players who was involved in Chelsea 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Sheffield United the last time the two teams met at Bramall Lane in the league is Reece James who was not taking anything for granted when Chelsea faced Sheffield United on a cold Sunday evening in South Yorkshire. This time however, Chelsea returned back to London with the desired result and three points to move up to fifth in the premier league table. In the wake of Sunday's victory James spoke about the reaction from the team towards conceding an equaliser in the second half, about the influence of Timo Werner as well as Jorginho's penalty, which proved to be the second winning penalty in the space of four days.  His penalty run-up was that of his previous technique as supposed to the penalty taken against Tottenham, which having missed three penalties earlier this season was taken in a more different and conventional style.  On Jorginho's penalty James said  'He works really hard and practices

Tuchel has heard everything he needs to about Erling Haaland amidst transfer links to Chelsea

Image
It would appear that Erling Haaland is on Chelsea's list of transfer targets ahead of the transfer window in the summer with head coach Thomas Tuchel looking to increase his attacking options at Stamford Bridge. Erling Haaland is on a long list of summer transfers for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen in attack The January transfer window has closed it's doors less than one week ago and already there would appear to be speculation and rumours ahead of the summer window are rife. Having splashed out more than £200 million on players in last summers window, Chelsea did not spend during the January transfer window, with only a handful of outgoings keeping the transfer department busy in a somewhat one of the more quiet January transfer windows on record. The departure temporarily of Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season, as well as out of favour defender Danny Drinkwater being loaned out to Turkey, remained the main headlines as far as any tr

Werner talks about his new position under Tuchel

Image
Timo Werner explains how tweak in his position under head coach Thomas Tuchel contributed towards his match-winning performance against Sheffield United.  In recent matches there has been a noticeable improvement in Werner's fortunes, none more highlighted so than last nights trip to South Yorkshire to face Sheffield United at Brammal Lane, where he was the creator in both of Chelsea's goals as the Blues won 2-1. The freedom that Werner has been provided with to play on the shoulders of defenders and then drop deep between the lines was clearly evident yesterday as he looked a constant threat throughout Chelsea's victory with his running both on and off the ball. Werner revealed after the game that a key change in his role since Tuchel has taken over as Chelsea head coach, playing in a more central position and closer to his fellow strikers, is helping him to exploit and find space in order to attack opposition defences. Werner said 'Every manager is different in how th

Thomas Tuchel's analysis on a difficult but deserved win, the decisiveness of Werner plus gives update on Pulisic and Thiago Silva

Image
Thomas Tuchel's first taste of a premier league game outside of London took place in freezing conditions in South Yorkshire against tough opposition, so there was little wonder he was happy with the way in which his team stood up to the challenge at Bramall Lane.  They may be at the bottom of the table but Sheffield United have proven to be problematic opponents for just about every side in the premier league this season, and tonight was no different. The blades should have gone ahead inside 30 seconds and then had a penalty overturned by VAR before Chelsea took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Mason Mount. Sheffield United got back on level terms though through an Antonio Rudiger own goal on for Timo Werner, who created the opening for Mason Mount, to win Chelsea a penalty like he had done at Tottenham. Just like at Tottenham, Jorginho netted what would prove to be the winner, leaving Tuchel to reflect on a third consecutive league victory. On today's game Tuchel sa

Pre match briefing + team news for Sheffield United

Chelsea move from North London to South Yorkshire as a string of away games continues for the Blues with a visit to Brammal Lane to face Sheffield United on Sunday.  Beginning on Sunday, Chelsea will embark on a five day tour of South Yorkshire, as they take on two clubs separated by 12 miles of green belt, covered in snow. Before Chelsea face Barnsley in the FA Cup there is the small matter of facing Sheffield United in the premier league, with both sides having regained some form as of late.  Bramall Lane is one of those rare away fixtures where the biggest ever win for Chelsea was their maiden bow with a 3-0 victory back in January 1908 with George Hilsden getting on the scoresheet twice. Chelsea's most recent success came back in 2006 with goals from Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard. Sheffield United have recently discovered their cutting edge, winning five of their past seven games in all competitions. They hold an advantage as they have had an extra two days preparation over
