Thomas Tuchel's analysis on a difficult but deserved win, the decisiveness of Werner plus gives update on Pulisic and Thiago Silva

Thomas Tuchel's first taste of a premier league game outside of London took place in freezing conditions in South Yorkshire against tough opposition, so there was little wonder he was happy with the way in which his team stood up to the challenge at Bramall Lane.

They may be at the bottom of the table but Sheffield United have proven to be problematic opponents for just about every side in the premier league this season, and tonight was no different. The blades should have gone ahead inside 30 seconds and then had a penalty overturned by VAR before Chelsea took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Mason Mount.

Sheffield United got back on level terms though through an Antonio Rudiger own goal on for Timo Werner, who created the opening for Mason Mount, to win Chelsea a penalty like he had done at Tottenham. Just like at Tottenham, Jorginho netted what would prove to be the winner, leaving Tuchel to reflect on a third consecutive league victory.

On today's game Tuchel said 'you arrive in Sheffield on a cold February evening and it is waiting for you' as he spoke of the tricky conditions and Chelsea's opponents.

'It has the feeling of a cup game when you are playing a team which is full of energy and courage. Against a team which is very physical and direct, you have to accept that all of the moments in the game are easy and we accepted this, which was good.

'We did have some difficult moments to overcome, we were very lucky with the penalty not to go 1-0 down, but generally speaking it was a very good win and I am happy with that because from this we can build our confidence.'

Werner proves his value with major contribution in each half

Speaking on the first goal Tuchel said 'It was a brilliant run from Timo to assist with the first goal. His decision making was good to around their goalkeeper for the second goal. It was a foul and he got us the decisive penalty again.

'I have a feeling that the situation at Tottenham gave him a boost. I feel him growing stronger and stronger every day. 'Today I could really feel him on the pitch. He was in the game both physically and mentally but more important than this he was decisive.'

'If he continues on like this then I have no doubt that goals will soon come. I am sure of this.'

Tuchel on which Jorginho penalty technique he prefers

'I liked both of them because he put both penalties in the net! I am not one to judge a player on how they like to take a penalty or give advice on this. I played football only at a lower level and I know you feel pressure when the ball is lying on the spot.'

'I know that Jorgi can take penalties it all depends on how confident he feels. I am happy that he was able to score both of them.'

Pulisic not in the squad and Thiago Silva still injured

When asked about Pulisic Tuchel stated 'Christian has some family issues to solve, family always comes first, so I decided to give him a rest.'

On Thiago Silva Tuchel added, we are fighting everyday for sure he will miss the FA Cup game. It will take several days, but our goal is for him to back to face Southampton, that's possibly realistic if not ambitious.

'We are doing everything we can and I know Thiago will do everything he can to be ready as soon as possible. With a muscle injury you cannot take such risks so once it's healed it's healed, you can't accept the pain unlike the other injuries.'
