Tuchel on targeting the FA Cup

Thomas Tuchel says he is excited to be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in a competition which he has followed since he was a little boy.

Tuchel's Chelsea travel to Barnsley today for their fifth round game with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.

For Tuchel though there is no need to explain the FA cup to him as he admits growing up as a little boy in Germany that he is a big fan of the FA cup and says it would be a dream to lead Chelsea out a Wembley, even though his sole focus remains on overcoming Barnsley at Oakwell.

On lifting the trophy Tuchel said 'this of course would be absolutely huge. 'The FA cup is one of the most prestigious cups in the world with the final played at Wembley. Even as a little boy in Germany with no internet access or sports channels where you can watch all the games like nowadays, for sure you know that Wembley and the FA cup go hand in hand.

'We know that it's a big game to play and a very big goal to achieve, my approach though is always tat this evening's game is the most important game of our campaign, because this evening will prove to be a decisive match is an elimination match which we know very well that anything can be expected in the game of football.'

'Therefore we have to go step by step, for sure we will need to everything we can to prepare us to win the game and then move one round ahead. In any competition we play in, we play to win, so every round in any cup competition is the more important round as it is an elimination game and therefore we must be totally focused and on point when the game starts this evening and make sure we come out with a win.'

Tuchel admitted that , whilst he knew what he expected from English football in general before taking the job as Chelsea head coach, there is however, no substitute for living in it every day and his early experiences at Chelsea have made quite an impression on him.

Tuchel says 'it's not such a surprise, but at the end of it you feel it and experience this on the sidelines ever three days and it becomes different, because you suddenly experience what to expect and it's big intensity. There is also a big intensity in coaching and in the dugout next to me, this is a very physical input, the very well disciplined defending, teams who are disciplined in their structures and have belief in their approaches.'

'There is a lot of confidence shown in the way teams approach this kind of game against big teams. Everyone is trying hard to fight for a win, nobody's settling for a draw or a close defeat. This is exactly what football is all about and this is why we love this game, you find it all in this league, and this why we are very excited and happy and hopefully it brings out the best in us.'

Tuchel However, insists that all of the credit should go to his players, who have impressed him with both their ability and mentality, for the way they work hard on the pitch and have remained focus on winning games of football, with his changes in tactics providing an opportunity for their talent to shine once more.

I'm extremely pleased with the quality and the mentality which I have seen as well as the overall team performances as it is always a team effort as we already know of the quality of the players. Of course I want to help and guide them but in the end it comes down to the quality, determination and mentality in sticking to a game plan in helping each other out in attacking and defending together.

'This is exactly what I have seen in terms of all of these segments, I see a lot of quality and I'm very happy with the attitude, mentality and energy we show on the pitch. For me this is a good start and if we are able to show some patterns then it will help to increase us in our attacks, it will enable us to play more faster as everybody will get used to it. It helps us to keep the game fast and helps bring the intensity.'

'The way in which it is played is the most important thing though and it is also how the players play, it is due to their value as this is a high level that we find ourselves in the dressing room and on the pitch. It is now up to us to keep this momentum going.'
