Ahead of Manchester United Tuchel Reports Defender missing but reports no further injuries

The great news for Thomas Tuchel is that his squad returned from Bucharest in good health, with all those having made the trip to Romania available to face Manchester United today.


However, Tuchel confirmed in his pre-match media conference that Thiago Silva will not be in contention to face Manchester United as he continues to recover from a muscle injury which he sustained at Tottenham last month.  

Tuchel reported ' He carried out an individual training session today, on the pitch, and felt this was huge progress.'

'This is a big step for him, so I am hoping that he will join us next week.'

Tuchel has already faced Manchester United twice this season with PSG in the champions league group stage 

'It is very helpful if you understand the style, strength and weakness. We have had a pretty good impression of the style they play and the spaces in which they want to hurt us, alongside their strengths individually as a group. This will help us to prepare.'

'They enjoy lots of space , they enjoy playing on the counter-attack, they like to use their speed an will look to absorb our speed. They are a very strong team who have a compact defence, are very good in transition whoever they play, and it will be a big challenge for us to defend all this.'

'We will therefore, underline our opinion and knowledge with images from the last four weeks, and like always, we will then prepare our team to hopefully win this game. We will focus on ourselves, and concentrate on what we have to do to win this match.'

'There is still a lot to do but currently we are on a good run, and it will be a big challenge to be the first team to beat them in an away game in the premier league.'

This fixture begins a big run of games for the Blues 

'Prior to this game there a London derby, a champions league game against Atletico Madrid, and now we face Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton in the league, these are a series of big fixtures and challenges we will have to overcome.'

'For this reason this is exactly why we are here, We are looking forward to prepare the team so that they are ready on Sunday.'

'If we manage to achieve a win from this game it will be a huge result for us. However, if they manage to win it will be a huge result for them.'

'So lets wait and see. We are very aware. Today was not a day where we focus absolutely, today was a day where we bring the team together and do good training on the pitch. From now onwards our focus will totally be on this game.'

There appeared to be some mixed news relating to injuries ahead of our trip to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime, with Thiago set to be ruled out of the game at St Mary's and Christian Pulisic unlikely to travel, even though others who were a doubt were expected to be available. In his pre-press match conference Thomas Tuchel reported from Cobham  through a video link, speaking before the final training session before Chelsea headed to Southampton this afternoon.  Whilst this meant that Tuchel could not be a 100 percent certain about the condition of all of his players ahead of Saturday's game, he was able to reveal that Thiago Silva would not be involved at St Mary's. Mason Mount and Thomas Tuchel following Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Wolves  There will have been eyebrows raised when Thomas Tuchel did not select Mason Mount in his first starting line-up however the new boss is is already seeing the enormous ability and passion that the midfielder possesses.  Tuchel painfully pointed that his team selection against Wolves may well have been the most unfair in his reign at Chelsea when you consider he only had one training session which to work with his new players.  The decision made to omit Mount , a regular starter in all but two league games up to that point and most noticeably Chelsea's main in form player was always likely to be met with raised eyebrows, however, Tuchel simply insisted that he simply chose to play experience during a difficult time. Thomas Tuchel saw a run of five wins in a row come to an end as Chelsea drew 1-1 in today's lunchtime kick-off against Southampton, however the subject of much of Thomas Tuchel's analysis after the game was the sharpness required to score goals to win a game whilst keeping it tight defensively. Thomas Tuchel on the touchline during Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Southampton Tuchel saw his side go behind for the first time in the seven games that he has been in charge as head coach when Southampton scored on the counter attack in the first half.
