Match Report - Abraham goal secures victory for Chelsea in the FA Cup

Image
On a cold freezing night in Yorkshire, Chelsea had to wait until midway through the second half to find a way through a very spirited and resilient Barnsley side, however , a Tammy Abraham goal was enough to send Chelsea into the next round of the FA Cup, this was Chelsea's first success against Barnsley in the FA Cup following two previous defeats.  The most recent of those came back in 2008 when Chelsea then led by Avram Grant were knocked out at Oakwell however, this time though the only goal of the game went to Chelsea and was down to good combination play from three Chelsea academy graduates, with Tammy Abraham netting in from close range after quickness of thought from Billy Gilmour along with Reece James's pace and cross created the opening goal. Barnsley may well consider themselves unlucky not to have gone ahead in the goalless first half. Having started the better side, Barnsley wing-back Callum Brittain has his shot well saved early on by Kepa Arrizabalaga before see

Barnsley vs Chelsea the pre-match brief + team news

To conclude the fifth round of the FA cup this evening Chelsea face Barnsley at Oakwell The gap in-between the league  positionings of Barnsley and Chelsea is the biggest between any of the teams facing each other in this round of the FA Cup buy the side from Yorkshire were the last side in the championship to defeat Chelsea from the FA Cup back in 2008. The last time these sides squared up was in the Carabao Cup, with both teams under different management. There appeared to be a spring in Chelsea's step and the hop

Image
It would appear that Erling Haaland is on Chelsea's list of transfer targets ahead of the transfer window in the summer with head coach Thomas Tuchel looking to increase his attacking options at Stamford Bridge. Erling Haaland is on a long list of summer transfers for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen in attack The January transfer window has closed it's doors less than one week ago and already there would appear to be speculation and rumours ahead of the summer window are rife. Having splashed out more than £200 million on players in last summers window, Chelsea did not spend during the January transfer window, with only a handful of outgoings keeping the transfer department busy in a somewhat one of the more quiet January transfer windows on record. The departure temporarily of Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season, as well as out of favour defender Danny Drinkwater being loaned out to Turkey, remained the main headlines as far as any tr

Timo Werner and Mason Mount Celebrate Chelsea's opening goal against Sheffield United For the second time in the space of four days a penalty from Jorginho proved to be the difference as Chelsea moved up to fifth in the table with a win over Sheffield United at Brammal Lane. Just like the game on Thursday against Tottenham again it was Timo Werner who was fouled, but this time Jorginho opted to go for hid more traditional penalty technique to send goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way. Jorginho is now Chelsea's second top goalscorer in the league with five goals to his name. The winger which came in the 58th minute after Antonio Rudiger had put through his own net awkwardly for what was an unfortunate first goal conceded under Thomas Tuchel. Rudiger more than made up for his mistake with a series of vital blocks and clearances as Chelsea doggedly defended their narrow lead later on in the game. Chelsea enjoyed a couple of early let offs in the game, not least when Sheffield U
