Enzo Maresca confirms team news for tomorrows game against Bournemouth

Blues boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that he does not expect Jorrell Hato to be fit to face Bournemouth tomorrow however, expects Wesley Fofana to be in contention to feature after being an unused substitute in the defeat at home to Aston Villa last weekend.

Chelsea return to action at Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening and look to but the defeat over the weekend against Aston Villa behind them and return to winning ways as they host Bournemouth hoping to end 2025 with a win.

The Blues will be without long term absentees Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia for the visit of the Cherries, with Maresca predicting that Hato will be ready to return in time from the injury which he sustained during the half time warm up against Newcastle United.

When asked about Hato at his pre match press conference which took place on Saturday. Enzo Maresca said " For Bournemouth, no I don't think he will be ready."

Though the Blues defeat against Aston Villa over the weekend was frustrating, the respective returns from injury of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian were positives for the Blues.

Maresca also confirmed that Wesley Fofana was an unused substitute against Unai Emery's Aston Villa side solely to manage his fitness condition. The centre back has not featured in back to back matches for the Blues so far this season as he continues to carefully be monitored following his injury.

A similar process was undertaken with Reece James in early 2025 and has paid off with the Blues skipper featuring in all but one of Chelsea's league matches this season along with featuring in 5 out of the Blues 6 champions league features.

Cole Palmer has also been slowly built up in recent weeks following a spell of two and a half months on the sidelines due to toe and groin injuries.

Both Reece James and Cole Palmer featured against Aston Villa on Saturday with Maresca saying that both would need to be assessed ahead of the visit of  the cherries. When asked about the duo's fitness in order to decided whether they would feature against Bournemouth.  Maresca responded by saying "we will need to see how they are".

On Reece James Maresca  said " Reece is doing well, no matter what position he is playing he is helping a lot. After the effort he put in against Aston Villa, we will have to see how he is for Bournemouth. But again we are very happy that he is fit.".
