Tuchel confirms two out for Newcastle game but states striker will return

Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on the fitness of four of his players ahead of Chelsea's game against Newcastle United on Monday night. Tuchel confirmed that Andreas Christensen who came of in the FA Cup game against Barnsley, has not suffered any lasting damage. Tuchel confirmed that was not concussion related at all but said that that the centre-back suffered from a headache and so was taken off. Another defender Thiago Silva would not recover in time to face with Tuchel saying he would hope for the Brazilian to return later on in the month.  Tuchel stated 'I'm not too certain about Thiago,' 'W are trying to get him back for Southampton and are trying hard so let's see but I am making no promises.' Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was fully prepared to admit that he was thankful to have left Barnsley with a victory on Thursday, However as a source of satisfaction, Tuchel pointed to the victory achieved at Oakwell which puts his side into the quarter finals of the FA Cup.  The only goal of the game was netted in by Tammy Abraham to separate the sides for the large majority of the game, Chelsea made 10 changes from the premier league win at the weekend, were matched by Barnsley from the championship. It was in stark contrast to the last outing between the two sides which resulted in a massive 6-0 win for Chelsea in the Carabao cup earlier during the season. Match Report - Abraham goal secures victory for Chelsea in the FA Cup

On a cold freezing night in Yorkshire, Chelsea had to wait until midway through the second half to find a way through a very spirited and resilient Barnsley side, however , a Tammy Abraham goal was enough to send Chelsea into the next round of the FA Cup, this was Chelsea's first success against Barnsley in the FA Cup following two previous defeats.  The most recent of those came back in 2008 when Chelsea then led by Avram Grant were knocked out at Oakwell however, this time though the only goal of the game went to Chelsea and was down to good combination play from three Chelsea academy graduates, with Tammy Abraham netting in from close range after quickness of thought from Billy Gilmour along with Reece James's pace and cross created the opening goal. Barnsley may well consider themselves unlucky not to have gone ahead in the goalless first half. As indicated yesterday head coach Thomas Tuchel hands starts for today's game to Kepa Arrizabalaga, N'Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Billy Gilmour. There is also a start under Tuchel for the first time for Kurt Zouma who partners Andreas Christensen at the heart of the Chelsea defence. there are also selections for Emerson and Marcos Alonso.  Tammy Abraham leads the attack for the Blues with both Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi included in the starting line-up. Two midfielders from the academy, Tino Anjorin and Lewis Bate are amongst the substitutions for todays game. For the hosts Barnsley they have former Chelsea academy player Bradley Collins in goal, just like they did for when Chelsea beat Barnsley 6-0 in the Carabao Cup win earlier this season. To conclude the fifth round of the FA cup this evening Chelsea face Barnsley at Oakwell The gap in-between the league  positionings of Barnsley and Chelsea is the biggest between any of the teams facing each other in this round of the FA Cup buy the side from Yorkshire were the last side in the championship to defeat Chelsea from the FA Cup back in 2008. Thomas Tuchel says he is excited to be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in a competition which he has followed since he was a little boy. Tuchel's Chelsea travel to Barnsley today for their fifth round game with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.  For Tuchel though there is no need to explain the FA cup to him as he admits growing up as a little boy in Germany that he is a big fan of the FA cup and says it would be a dream to lead Chelsea out a Wembley, even though his sole focus remains on overcoming Barnsley at Oakwell.  On lifting the trophy Tuchel said 'this of course would be absolutely huge. Thomas Tuchel has confirmed today that both N'Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech will both start Thursday's FA Cup game against Barnsley, however, Thiago Silva us unable to feature due to injury. Thomas Tuchel confirmed that he will be fielding a strong side at Oakwell , which will include both Kante and Ziyech, even though there will be changes in order to keep the rest of the matchday squad fresh following a busy period recently.  A his pre-match press conference Tuchel confirmed that there would be a very high possibility of seeing a lot of changes. He goes onto say ' for us this is the third away game from home now, therefore we don't want to lose both our awareness and attention to detail, so I think that this is a good opportunity to make some changes.  'Everybody in our team deserves to be on the pitch and there are also players who have suffered as a result of my decisions.
