Thomas Tuchel on conducting the orchestra and trust being built

Thomas Tuchel is extremely happy with how quickly his Chelsea players are learning his tune and says the key to a more sustained performance is to build mutual trust and through reflective learning.

The Chelsea head coach has picked up seven points from his first three games, each display being more impressive with resulted in Chelsea's victory over Tottenham on Thursday night.

With both results and points being imperative in the short-term goal being to propel Chelsea further up in the premier league table, Tuchel is certain that only an improvement in performances will sustain Chelsea's challenge for a top four finish for a third consecutive season.

Tuchel said 'In order for us to drill down to the finer details, there needs to be a strong relationship between the manager and the dressing room is key.'

Tuchel explained 'Results will not follow all the time in football'. 'This is very hard to accept for a coach who wishes to control and plan everything however, in football, and particularly in the premier league, you need to accept that you have no control over the result.

'All we can do is take care of our performances and in order for us to do this we need to establish a good relationship between myself and my players. We need to build trust with one another so we are always able to talk about the performance and hopefully the results will follow.'

In order for a high-level performance to be achieved, Tuchel and his coaching staff will first have to explain to the players what this looks like before being able to measure and reflect on the plan with what actually happened on the pitch. According to Tuchel this 'honest reflective learning' is the only way  in which the team is able to correct their mistakes and improve continuously.

I have had moments in the past where I have been into the dressing room after a draw or even a defeat and I praised the performance but this something which I have to prove he said.

'We must create performances and for that you have to be very clear on to each play what performance is expected- what do I need to do, what does the manager expect from me and why, what the team expects from me as a player, how we work together as a group. In the end it's similar to an orchestra so we need to make sure that we follow a certain rhythm, speed, style and discipline. This needs to be clear to everyone.'

'On occasions there will be matches which we win and there will be games where we are unhappy so we will explain to the team why we are unhappy and why we won the game just because of luck. However, if you ask me if I prefer to win the game by luck or to lose undeservedly then I would go for a lucky win because with an win it is easy to improve.'

Tuchel will have been encouraged by the characteristics as a collective among the group during his first 11 days in charge as he continues to rebuild both momentum and positive energy.

Tuchel said 'We are here to create performances on a high level which increases our possibility in winning.' 'There is not much more we can do but then the players jump in with both the atmosphere and energy, this is what the team is able to do rather than being 11 individual's out on the pitch.'

'This is something which I feel is happening right now and it brings the best out of the team, a certain glue in order to gel together, to overcome certain obstacles and difficult minutes, to be ready to work for one another.'

'All this is included in actual performance but sometimes you can smell this. You feel it either on the sideline or you don't feel it at all but it's often hard to explain this in statistics, behaviours and numbers.'
