Xabi Alonso was unveiled as to the worlds media as Chelsea's new manager for the first time with the Spaniard taking the opportunity to praise the 24 year old talisman Cole Palmer pointing to his amazing quality, which Alonso has said has been on show even in the first few training sessions that the pair have had together.
In a season which was disrupted through injury Palmer showed signs of being at his best at times , with his most noticeable moment being his brilliant hattrick against Wolves with him becoming the first player in premier league history to score hattricks on three separate occasions.
Alonso is aware of his tasks will be to bring out the best in Palmer,
When asked about Palmer Alonso responded by saying "I have seen quite a bit of him in the few training sessions that we have had and from the first day you could see that he is a special talent".
" He is a special player whose quality you can notice. and how he's able to make the right decisions and is always in the right spot."
" I am happy that he has come back in a good mood and a good mindset to have a great season and we are looking forward to getting the best out of him."
" If we can build a strong team along with a strong ability to find our key players then for sure Cole is going to be one of our key players in the final third."
Another player that Alonso will want to get the best out of is summer signing Marco Palestra.
The Italian joined Chelsea from Atalanta earlier this month having been named Serie A defender of the year in a productive loan spell at Cagliari , with Alonso being hopeful that Palestra will quickly adapt to life in the premier league.
" Marco has all the qualities to be able to adapt to modern football" said Alonso.
" He's a player that gives you versatility in his positioning whether you play as a back four as a back five. He has also played on the left sometimes as well and is physically strong."
" In terms of his development we will need to work on this with him as well as him adapting to the premier league, but I am sure and positive that it won't take him long to settle."
" In terms of his competitiveness he has a really strong mentality and a hunger to improve. So I'm happy that he is here and we look forward to bringing out the best of him."
