Who should take charge of Chelsea vs Wolves if Tuchel is not appointed on time?

Chelsea kick off the post Frank Lampard era with a home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Current first team coach Joe Edwards may take charge if Thomas Tuchel has not been appointed

Chelsea will look to return to winning ways in the first game of the post Frank Lampard Era when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Following a terrible run of form for the Blues with five defeats in eight games, the hierarchy at Chelsea made the decision to relieve Lampard of his duties on Monday morning, less than two years after taking over from Maurizio Sarri.

Despite Lampard being sacked for over 24 hours, Chelsea have been quick to appoint his successor, with former PSG and Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel on the verge of being appointed as Chelsea's new head coach.

Tuchel is due to arrive in England on Tuesday afternoon ahead of taking charge of training for the first time. Ife he passes a Coronavirus test by retuning a negative result he may also take charge of his first game as Chelsea head coach on Wednesday evening.

He may not have to spend 2 weeks in quarantine as he is entering an elite sport exemption programme however, he will still need to act within the guidelines of other Coronavirus restrictions set out by the government.

Should Tuchel return a positive result from the Coronavirus test or any further incidents come up on route to England, resulting in him not taking charge of the visit of Wolves on Wednesday night then , it is more than likely that the trio of Joe Edwards, Chris Jones and Anthony Barry who were part of Lampard's coaching staff will take charge.

Even though Lampard and his assistant Jody Morris left Chelsea on Monday the above mentioned trio have all retained their positions at Stamford Bridge.

Another candidate who could potentially step up to the plate is former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, however, this in hindsight seems unlikely even though he is Chelsea's technical and performance advisor.

In Chelsea's statement confirming Lampard's exit they have yet to confirm whether anyone has been placed in caretaker charge, making their intentions clear in putting Tuchel in charge as soon as possible.
