Chelsea have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their head coach. The German arrives at Stamford Bridge after a spell of two and a half years at Paris St-Germain , which came to an end last month.
Tuchel will become the first German to manage the Blues and arrives having guided PSG to a champions league final and four French domestic honours during his time in Paris.
Prior to coaching in Paris, Tuchel has spells in his native Germany coaching for seven seasons in the Bundesliga , his first club was Mainz for whom he guided to the Europa league. Following on from Mainz Tuchel enjoyed further success with Borussia Dortmund winning the German cup.
Tuchel will be united with the likes of Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva who he managed at Dortmund and PSG respectively.
Tuchel signed an initial contract of 18 months with the possibility of an extension, stated "I would like to thank Chelsea Football Club for their confidence in me and my staff."
He further said "We have to show respect for Frank Lampard for his work and respect his legacy at Chelsea. However, at the same time I cannot wait to meet the team and work in the most exciting league in world football. I am forever grateful to now classify myself as part of the Chelsea family it is an amazing feeling.
Upon the appointment of Tuchel director Marina Granovskaia stated "It is never an easy thing to change a coach in the middle of a season but we are happy to secure one of the best coaches in Europe in Thomas Tuchel. We believe that there is still so much to play for this season and beyond. We welcome Thomas to Chelsea Football Club.
Tuchel took his first training session yesterday and will be in the dugout for todays premier league game against Wolves.
