Chelsea Lining up a potential bid for Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele


Chelsea are keeping close tabs on Barcelona Left winger Ousmane Dembele and are expressing strong interest in signing the Frenchman in the summer.

The Frenchman is currently out of contract in the summer of 2022 and although he is happy at Barcelona, it would appear he is reluctant to sign terms with the Catalan club. 

Dembele 23, has failed to cement himself as  a regular Barcelona player with his progress being hampered by injuries ever since he joined the Catalan club in the summer of 2017. 

However, as a result of the injury to Ansu Fati, Dembele has recently found form on the left wing for Barcelona, the winger has currently bagged six goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. 

Chelsea could possibly enter the race to sign the ex Dortmund star this summer, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Juventus interested in signing Dembele.

Even though he has spent three years in Spain, question marks still remain over Dembele's form, attitude and fitness both on and off the pitch. 

Barcelona expressed strong interest in selling Dembele on a permanent transfer in the summer however, the majority of the clubs who expressed interest wanting the Frenchman on a loan, a permanent move never materialised. 

With Dembele's current deal due to expire in the summer, Barcelona have certainly felt the financial implications as a result of the COVID19 pandemic as much all of the clubs in Europe, could possibly be forced to sell Dembele should the winger refuse a contact extension in the summer. 

We understand that the Frenchman's entourage are holding out on any talks of renewing a contact therefore, Barcelona may be tempted to cash in on the Frenchman should they receive the right offer at the end of the season. 

Despite a massive summer signing free, Chelsea have looked rather lacklustre up front this season with big money signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner yet to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. 

Chelsea have been linked with numerous attacking options throughout the duration of the January transfer window however, need to trim their wage bill significantly if they are to add new signings to their squad this month. 

Taking all things into consideration, it would be an ultimate statement of intent from the Chelsea board if they were to sign Dembele in the summer.

Tuchel states that defender is out but provides update on attacking duo and reports on issues for Pulisic

There appeared to be some mixed news relating to injuries ahead of our trip to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime, with Thiago set to be ruled out of the game at St Mary's and Christian Pulisic unlikely to travel, even though others who were a doubt were expected to be available. In his pre-press match conference Thomas Tuchel reported from Cobham  through a video link, speaking before the final training session before Chelsea headed to Southampton this afternoon.  Whilst this meant that Tuchel could not be a 100 percent certain about the condition of all of his players ahead of Saturday's game, he was able to reveal that Thiago Silva would not be involved at St Mary's. Tuchel stated 'Thiago will be out of the game as he is not already.' Chelsea line up to face Manchester United

Chelsea make three changes from the midweek game in Romania against Atletico Madrid  There are returns for Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and N'Golo Kante to Thomas Tuchel's side as Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for this afternoons game. The trio to miss out are Marcos Alonso, Jorginho and Timo Werner who all drop to the bench. This means the Olivier Giroud will lead the line up front following his brilliant performance in Romania on Tuesday, with the attacking support being provided by both Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech. The goalkeeper and the back three remain unchanged with Edouard Mendy protected at the back by Cesar Azpiliqueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
