Azpiliqueta reveals Tuchel's message to the players

Cesar Azpiliqueta and Head coach Thomas Tuchel after the 0-0 draw with Wolves

Cesar Azpiliqueta shares with us the message sent to the Chelsea squad by head coach Thomas Tuchel during his first week at the club as well as discussing the importance of the squad taking responsibility in improving results.

Tuchel who joined Chelsea on Tuesday a whole 24 hours before his first game as Chelsea head coach against Wolves, with the club captain revealing what Tuchel had told his players over the last few days.

Azpiliqueta states 'since he joined, he has made it very clear what he expects from all off us.' 'He is very excited to manage a group of talented and experienced players.' We have a good blend of everything and he wants to achieve the same targets as us and wants to do it all together.

Though we are halfway through the season, we still have a lot to play for and objectives to achieve, we are aware of the responsibility that comes with playing for this club requiring high standards each and every day. We will of course try to achieve everything together.

The Spanish defender made it clear that everyone at Chelsea believes that a top four position is achievable, which would enable us to secure another season in the champions league. However Azpiliqueta acknowledges that in order to achieve that goal there will need to be a big change in improvement from the players , something he hopes which will be added by the extra motivation of working with a new head coach and with individuals who are starting from scratch in order to impress the boss.

'We have to try and be up there and continue to improve. At the current moment we are not in the position we expect to be in. The reason for us being where we are currently is down to the fact we deserve nothing more up until now. so it is important we work hard and work together.'

'We have a couple of days preparation time before we face Burnley on Sunday and all of the team are ready to fight and to give their best as we are very excited to work with him and as players we have to give everything.'

He goes onto add 'when a new manager arrives, we all have to be open minded , we all start from zero. As players we have to give everything now we have four exciting months ahead where we have loads to play for and hopefully we can go onto achieve our targets for the season.'

Azpiliqueta however pointed out that it is all not just down to Tuchel and his coaching staff  though, saying that players need to take responsibility in order for results to improve and show fight for each other in order to succeed in the second half of the season.

'Our job as footballers is to do the work on the pitch, in order to improve ourselves. As players we have our own responsibility, of course but we as players are the ones whose job it is to get results out on the pitch and currently we are not doing this said the Chelsea captain. 'We are not excused from this and I know we have areas in which to improve and I know that we have to step up and give more as we find ourselves in a position where we cannot afford to waste any time or games.'

'We have to try to get into a better position , so that confidence comes back into the team, everyone needs to be strong together as a group. We know that every time Chelsea don't win a game it means that we are not doing what a club of Chelsea's stature should be doing.'

Azpiliqueta concluded by stating 'everyone in the dressing room is all together as one and is fully committed to the cause. The dressing room is strong and united as one in fighting for everything this season.
